Q: Are you purchasing new materials or packaging that you think could be sourced from other outlets?

If you have answered ‘yes’ to either of these questions, then TerraNova's Waste Exchange may be able to help you.

The Waste Exchange is a confidential, free service helping to source either materials for reuse, or markets for your waste materials.

The Waste Exchange Service operates at a range of levels. Rather than just listing materials available and materials wanted our co-ordinator visits businesses to assess their needs, and to advise them about waste materials that could be redirected to more productive uses. This personal contact also addresses any individual concerns suppliers may have over issues such as commercial sensitivity, access, safety and the end uses of the waste materials (eg, ensuring a manufacturer’s seconds do not end up back on the market or go to their competition).

The Waste Exchange also works closely with businesses, education providers, employment and community groups fo find recipients for these materials. TerraNova can also provide financial and practical assistance for research and investigation and business development to expand the local recycling industry. TerraNova now has 4660 organisations registered on its database for either wanted or available materials. To date we have facilitated 3500 successful one-off or on-going exchanges.

Terranova waste exchange and education activities and staff were transferred to Christchurch City Council on 30 November 2009. After 31 December 2009 Christchurch City Council will not continue to provide waste exchange services for Tasman, Marlborough, Invercargill, and Dunedin, previously provided by Terranova.
